Tigers tumble at East

LEWISBURG – Rondale Watson fired in 29 points to lead Class AAA, No. 7 Greenbrier East to an 85-29 victory over Elkins.

The Tigers jumped out to a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans bounced back with a 24-point effort in the second quarter to take a 39-25 lead at intermission.

“We came out and played well for about a quarter,” Elkins coach John Lawson said. “We hit some shots. We were feeling pretty good and we got satisfied. I’m a little disappointed, however. You can’t play well for one quarter and expect to be there at the end. You have to put four good quarters together.”

Colby Gainer led the charge for the Tigers with 19 points. Logan Phillips added 16 points and Braden Hammond chipped in 10 points.

“This is the type of team we will be facing in our regional,” Lawson said. “It was a good opportunity to go after a good team. I hope we got something out of this.”

For the Spartans, Maduagwanda Romeo added 13 points and Tyler Canterbury chipped in with 12 points.

The Tigers (11-9) will travel to Oak Hill at 5:45 p.m. today.
