Tucker rolls over Rams; Colts cruise
HAMBLETON – Ian Nichols exploded for 26 points for Tucker County en route to a 60-41 victory over Southern Garrett, Md., Friday night in non-conference action.
“Defensively, we played very well,” Mountain Lions coach Tom Gutshall said. “We had some kids really step up tonight. Our defense was outstanding. The last time we played them, they scored 80 points. We gave them 40 tonight, so that was a big improvement. Offensively, we still aren’t clicking like I want us to.”
Austin Zirk scored 15 points for the Mountain Lions. Senior Mitchell Mason grabbed 16 rebounds.
Clay Todd paced Southern Garrett with 23 points. Brian Reams added six points.
Tucker County (10-2) will host Pendleton County at 7:30 p.m. today in a make-up game.
Philip Barbour 68

CLARKSBURG – Al Johnson fired in 17 points to lift Philip Barbour past Liberty, 68-38, Friday in Big 10 Conference play.
“We started off with a big run in the first half,” PB coach Marcus Johnson said. “Then we started turning the ball over and let them come back to with three points. Al Johnson made a half court shot just before halftime and we started to get the momentum back.
“We only had three turnovers in the entire second half. That was big. We out ran them down the floor and scored some easy baskets.”
For the Colts, sophomore Chris Neville scored 11 points. Junior Joey Anglin hit for nine points and grabbed eight rebounds. Nick Triplett and Spencer Hudkins scored eight points each.
The Colts (4-12) will host Grafton at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Pendleton County 67

FRANKLIN – Luke Yokum scored 13 points and Logan Cooper added 12 to lead Pendleton County past PVC foe Harman on Friday night.
Coy Cummings paced the Panthers with 13 points.
The Wildcats will visit Tucker County at 7:30 p.m. today for another PVC contest.
Middle school girls
EMS bests Philippi
PHILIPPI – Taylor Phillips tallied 14 points and Taylor Maynard tallied 10 to lead the Elkins Middle School varsity past Philippi, 45-36, on Friday.
Adriana Christopher tallied 19 points for the Bulldogs.
Elkins will host Buckhannon-Upshur at noon today.
Marlinton split tilts
MARLINTON – Charity Warder scored five points to help Green Bank defeat Marlinton, 24-21, in girls middle school varsity action.
Haley Bennett, Marlee McLaughlin, Harlie Nelson and Alexa Taylor scored four points for Green Bank.
Catlyn Sparks paced Marlinton with nine points. Briana Mills added four points.
In the junior varsity game, Marlinton defeated Green Bank, 35-19.
Julie Agee and Brianna Hefner scored 14 points each to lead Marlinton. Jerica Reed led Green Bank with six points and Twylia McCarty added four points.
