Tucker topples Jackets

MOOREFIELD – Ian Nichols had 16 points as Tucker County cruised past Moorefield, 64-43, Wednesday in PVC play.

Austin Zirk chipped in with 13 and Mitchell Mason 12 for the Mountain Lions, who are scheduled to visit Pendleton County at 7:30 p.m. today.

TENNERTON?- John Wilfong poured in 20 points to lead Bridgeport to a 69-58 win over Buckhannon-Upshur Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference play.

Hunter Haddix chipped in with 15 and Chase Robey 12 for the Indians (11-5).

Cody Garrett had 18 and Zane Clevenger 14 for the Bucs, who dropped to 4-12 and are slated to visit Lewis County at 7:30 p.m. today.

RACHEL – Johnnie Riley fired in 27 points to pace Lewis County to a 59-49 victory over North Marion in Big 10 play on Wednesday night.

Chase Banker led the Huskies with 13 points. Cole Richards added 10.

The Minuteman are scheduled to entertain Big 10 foe Buckhannon-Upshur at 7:30 p.m. today.

Prep wrestling

PB defeats Preston

KINGWOOD – Philip Barbour defeated Preston, 33-27, Wednesday in wrestling action.

Earning wins for the Colts were David Murphy (120 pounds), Ian Nuzum (126), Justin Cox (152), James Bell (152) and Andrew Daugherty (195).

Murphy and Bell won by pin falls, Nuzum captured a decision victory and Cox and Daugherty had forfeit wins.

Philip Barbour will return to the mat at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grafton Hardwood Duals.

College baseball

D&E trip cancelled

ELKINS – The season-opening trip to Myrtle Beach for the Davis & Elkins College baseball team has been cancelled due to concerns of the facility owner about the amount of precipitation dropped by the recent winter storm.

The Senators’ season-opener will now take place on Saturday, Feb. 21 in King, N.C., against Fairmont State.

D&E is scheduled to open the home season March 8 against Lock Haven.

Alderson Broaddus, meanwhile, is scheduled to open its season Saturday against Christian Brother University in Memphis,?Tenn.
