Warriors advance to title tilt

DUNMORE – Three players tallied double digits in scoring to power Pocahontas County past East Hardy, 60-32, in Class A, Region II, Section 2 tournament action on Wednesday night.

The Warriors will look to secure their 13th straight sectional title Saturday against Pendleton County.

“We played good in spurts,” Warriors coach Mike Kane said. “We shot the ball reasonably well. We still got too many turnovers. We definitely need to cut down on those. Tonight, we got to the foul line and we made baskets and that was the difference.”

Pocahontas County took a 31-12 lead into the locker room at halftime and never looked back. The Warriors controlled the pace of the game, outrebounding the Cougars, 30-23. East Hardy also committed more turnovers, 24-13.

Tristin Day paced the Warriors with 19 points and four steals. Bobbie McNabb added 17 points and eight rebounds. Melissa Murphy contributed 13 points and five steals.

Senior Ruby Fridley led the Cougars in scoring with 13 points.

Marilyn Cassell added 10 points and Allison Dyer capped the scoring with nine points.

Pocahontas and Pendleton County will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at Petersburg High School.
