Gilmer County holds off late Bulldog rally

GLENVILLE – A furious Tygarts Valley rally fell short in a 7-6 setback to Gilmer County Friday in the season opener for both teams.

The Bulldogs trailed 7-0 before erupting for six runs in the seventh inning. Owen Arbogast smacked a grand slam during the uprising, while Keighan Chewning and Caleb Riggleman added RBIs.

Riggleman went 2 for 3 to lead Tygarts Valley at the plate.

Nathan Allison knocked in a pair of runs for the Titans.

Owen Arbogast and Ryan Hoffman both saw time on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Arbogast went the first four innings, allowing five runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked one.

Hoffman allowed two runs on three hits in two innings of relief.

Adam Beall pitched six scoreless innings to earn the win.

He walked four and fanned 10.

Colton Rose surrendered six runs in 2/3 innings of relief. Austin Cunningham retired the final out to earn the save.

Tygarts Valley will return to action Wednesday at East Hardy for its PVC opener.
