The Junior Elementary School PTA is hosting the Shamrock Shuffle 5k/2k on Saturday to help raise funds for student needs and school events.

Registration for the race begins at 9 a.m. and the race will start at 10 a.m. at the school.

“The Shamrock Shuffle provides a much-needed event for our school and community,” JES PTA President Blake Williams said. “Junior Elementary is a small school in a small community. We typically have to look to our neighboring towns’ businesses such as Belington, Philippi and Elkins to help us out with our fundraising. The event will bring people into the town. My hope is that the people of the community get behind this and the event will continue to grow for years to come.”

Williams said the race starts with a gradual downhill grade from the school and primarily follows a flat route along the Tygart River. The course continues with a slight uphill grade in the middle and concludes with another uphill slope on the way back to the school.

“I would like to invite people from all over the region to help make this the best possible event it can be,” Williams said. “While this is a competitive event, it is meant to be a fun event. Wearing green is encouraged but not required. The event is the Shamrock Shuffle, after all.”

The cost to enter is $15 for Junior Elementary School students and $25 for everyone else. Medals will be awarded in various divisions, to be determined based on registration. A trophy will also be presented to the overall winner.
