Millersville spoils D&E’s home debut

ELKINS – Millersville spoiled Davis &?Elkins College’s home debut this weekend by sweeping the three-game series at Harpertown Field.
The Marauders took a 5-1 decision on Sunday after defeating the Senators by scores of 7-0 and 16-1 on Saturday.
Millersville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning of Sunday’s finale on the strength of run-producing singles by Chas McCormick and Tyler Orris.
Kurt Seiders delivered an RBI single in the fourth to make it 3-0, while two more runs crossed in the sixth on Tyler McDonald’s double and a throwing error by the Senator defense.
Jim McDade went six innings to earn the victory. He allowed just two hits over the first six innings before giving up a walk and double to start the seventh. Adam Zipko worked 1 2/3 innings to earn the save.
Zach Bradfield allowed five runs, three being earned, on 10 hits in eight innings of action in taking the loss. He fanned four and walked just one.
Elkins High School product Brennan Dettinger tossed a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one.
In Saturday’s action, Millersville plated single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead in the lidlifter.
The Marauders added three more in the fifth and another in the seventh to build a 7-0 lead.
Michael Paratore (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on two hits in 3 2/3 innings.
He was not helped by his defense, which committed seven errors, resulting in five of the visitors’ runs.
Forest Williamson finished in relief.
In the second game, Millersville built a 14-0 lead after two innings en route to the easy victory.
Logan Mongold’s RBI groundout accounted for the Senators’ lone run of the day.
Marcus Warner (0-3) took the loss, giving up 10 runs on seven hits in just one inning.
D&E (5-7) is scheduled to host Glenville State at noon Tuesday for a doubleheader.
