PC girls capture regional

DUNMORE – Melissa Murphy fired in 19 points to help Pocahontas County cruise past Notre Dame, 70-43, in a Class A Region II finale on Wednesday night.

The Warriors (16-7) will make their eighth trip to the state tournament since 2002. The tourney pairings will be released today.

Tristin Day and Sarah Ryder added 18 points each for Pocahontas County.

Day also tallied six steals, while Ryder grabbed seven rebounds. Junior forward Bobbie McNabb chipped in 11 points and dished out seven assists.

Christina Snodgrass paced the Irish with 12 points, but didn’t find the net in the second half. Rachel Rogers added 11 points and Francesca Steele added nine points for Notre Dame, which finished the season 12-12.
