Seneca Soccer to host referee training class

Seneca Soccer is pleased to announce an opportunity for any individual interested in becoming a certified soccer referee.

The organization will host a training class, which will take place the evenings of March 25 and March 27, and during the day on March 29.

Seneca Soccer uses referees for games in the U-10 recreation league, U-12 recreation league and for all travel teams.

Seneca Soccer is experiencing rapid growth.

“We are excited to be given the opportunity to serve over 200 young soccer players in our county,” Seneca Soccer President Heather Croson said. “Our soccer board is working hard to continue the same level of organization and commitment to soccer development that we are known.

“Part of that commitment is ensuring that we can provide certified referees for the games in our recreation and travel programs.

Seneca Soccer has partnered up with previous league commissioner and certified referee trainer, Tim Jones.

“Tim has been dedicated to youth soccer for years as a board member and referee,” Croson said. “We are thrilled that Tim has offered his time to provide this training in our area.”

According to Jones, the U.S. Soccer Federation referee training program is designed to allow anyone to gain the knowledge necessary to referee youth and amateur soccer games.

No prior experience or knowledge of the game is needed, just the desire to give back to the community and provide an opportunity for our youth to experience the great game of soccer.

“Without referees, Seneca Soccer will be unable to provide as rich a soccer experience as they deserve,” Jones said.

Jones said the league works around potential referee’s work schedules.

“The best part of becoming a referee is how easy it is to fit into your already busy schedule – you choose the games you want to work.

“I encourage interested individuals in joining me as I provide the necessary training, through a mix of online and classroom teaching, to become a USSF certified referee.”

The cost for the class is $45, and those who complete the course will have a grade 8 USSF referee certification.

Seneca Soccer pays certified refs $20 per game.
