Tucker, Warriors to meet in tourney

CHARLESTON – Tucker County and Pocahontas County will meet for the third time this season when the Class A portion of the state tournament begins on Thursday.

The PVC foes will battle at 9:30 a.m. in quarterfinal action at the Charleston Civic Center.

The Mountain Lions, who are the No. 3 seed, defeated the sixth-seed Warriors in both regular-season meetings.

The remainder of the Class A pairings include five-time state champion and top seed St. Joseph Central vs. No. 8 Tug Valley, No. 2 St. Marys vs. No. 7 Fayetteville and No. 4 Wheeling Central vs. No. 5 Charleston Catholic.

The Class AAA and AA pairings are scheduled to be announced today.

Women’s basketball

D&E, AB fall in G-MAC tourney

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Davis & Elkins College and Alderson Broaddus University women were both eliminated from the G-MAC tournament on Thursday.

The Senators dropped a n 89-79 decision to Ursuline, despite 19 points and 14 rebounds from senior Jorden Lykes. Stephanie Wooten added 21 points and Ashley Bowles 14.

Tajanee Wells led the Arrows with 31 points.

Sydney Shaffer had 18 points in a losing effort as the Battlers fell to Cedarville, 75-48.

Danielle Spiliotis had 20 for the Yellow Jackets.
