Bees get past Colts; TVHS bests Devils
PHILIPPI – Cameron Stewart struck out seven batters Thursday to push East Fairmont past Philip Barbour 9-3 in ?Big 10 Conference play.
The game was tied 1-1 at the end of four innings. However, three consecutive walks by the Colts loaded the bases. Sophomore Elmo Trickett came up with a clutch hit to empty the bases and give the Bees a 4-1 advantage. He finished the day 2 for 5 with three RBIs.
“We need to clean up our fielding,” Colts coach Jonathan Carpenter said. “We had five errors. We also need to cut down on our walks. Our struggle so far has been with pitching and fielding. On a positive note, the top three batters of our lineup have been hitting and getting on base. We are just struggling to get them in.”
Stewart pitched six innings to earn the win. He struck out seven batters and gave up eight hits and one run.
Shawn Curtis took the loss. He pitched three innings and gave up five runs on four hits.
Al Johnson and Saige Cline paced the Colts. Both went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
The Colts (2-7) host Liberty at 4:30 p.m. today.
TVHS 8, Calhoun 3
MT. ZION?- Tygarts Valley tallied 14 hits on the day en route to an 8-3 win over Calhoun County on Wednesday.
Owen Arbogast was 3 for 5 on the day for the Bulldogs with a pair of RBIs, while Keighan Chewning went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Jace Kyle, P.J. Lanham and Hunter Park added two hits apiece.
Michael Fulks went 3 for 4 with an RBI to pace the Red Devils (1-9).
Ryan Hoffman went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits to earn the win. He struck out four and didn’t issue a walk. Caleb Riggleman went the final two innings, not allowing a run or hit, fanning one and walking one.
Ethan Miller surrendered five runs on 11 hits in taking the loss. He struck out four and walked three.
Tygarts Valley (5-2) will visit Valley-Wetzel at 3 p.m. Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader.
