Big inning propels TV past Tucker

MILL CREEK – Tygarts Valley erupted for eight runs in the third inning en route to a 15-5 win ove Tucker County Tuesday in PVC play.

The game was halted after the top of the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The Bulldogs (1-1) held a 4-2 advantage before the third-inning outburst.

Rece Wamsley led Tygarts Valley at the plate with three RBIs, while Jace Kyle and Owen Arbogast added two each.

Kevin McDermott and Zac Haddox each had two hits for the Mountain Lions.

Ryan Hoffman went four innings to earn the win. He allowed four runs on five hits, fanned seven and walked two. Caleb Riggleman finished in relief.

McDermott allowed nine runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings in taking the loss. He struck out three and walked two, Haddox went 1 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Both teams will be in action today as Tucker County (0-2) will host Preston at 4:30 p.m. and Tygarts Valley will entertain Richwood at 5 p.m.

B-U 11, Lewis County 1

BUCKHANNON – Zane Clevenger gave up two hits Tuesday to lift Buckhannon-Upshur over Lewis County, 11-1, in Big 10 Conference action.

“We played really good,” B-U coach Adam Squires said. “Zane kept us in the game with his pitching and we got timely hits when it counted. They also made a bunch of errors. Anytime you can 10 run a sectional foe, it’s a good thing.”

Jake Goss led the Buccaneer offense, going 2-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Bryson Fluke went 1-3 with a double and two RBI.

Lucas Pudder took the loss for the Minutemen.

The Bucs will return to action Thursday at Fairmont Senior. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Lewis County hosts Robert C. Byrd at 7:30 p.m. Thursday
