Colts use big innings to hold off North, 9-6

PHILIPPI – Philip Barbour plated seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings in claiming a 9-6 win over North Marion Thursday in Big 10 Conference play.

The game was deadlocked at 2-2 before the Colts tallied three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

Sean Curtis led the Philip Barbour offense, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Saige Cline was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Tyler Baldwin 2 for 2 with three runs scored, Jacob Marsh 1 for 4 with a pair of runs knocked in and Al Johnson, who scored three times.

Baldwin went 6 2/3 innings to earn the win, allowing six run on nine hits with six strikeouts. Cline retired the final batter to earn the save.

“This was a good win for us,” Philip Barbour coach Jonathan Carpenter said. “We’re starting to play better ball right now and hopefully we can continue to do that as the season starts to hit the final stretch.”

The Colts (3-8) will remain home at 4:30 p.m. today to face Buckhannon-Upshur.

Pendleton 15, Tucker 5

FRANKLIN – Pendleton County racked up 19 hits and overcame an early deficit to cruise past PVC foe Tucker County in five innings on Thursday night.

The Mountain Lions pushed four runs across in the top of the first inning before the Wildcats rallied.

Trey Cooper had four RBIs for Pendleton County, while Luke Yokum was 2 for 5 with three RBIs, Logan Cooper and 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Tim Hevener added a two-run triple and Cody Lambert was 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs.

Jake Pifer had a solo homer and Logan Fridley a two-run single for Tucker County. Kevin McDermott also had a pair of hits.

Zac Haddox took the loss in four-plus innings.

Callum McGrath earned the win, allowing five runs (one being earned) on seven hits and fanning three.

Pendleton County (11-5, 5-1 PVC) will travel to Paw Paw at noon Saturday for a doubleheader.

Tucker County (2-5) will visit Union at 5 p.m. Monday.

TV sweeps Union

MT. STORM?- Tygarts Valley pounded out 37 hits to sweep Union in a PVC doubleheader on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs took the opener, 15-2, and completed the sweep with a 23-10 victory in the nightcap.

Rece Wamsley went 3 for 3 with three RBIs in the opener to lead Tygarts Valley. Caleb Riggleman also had three RBIs, while Jace Kyle, Jonathan Riegel and Owen Arbogast knocked in two runs each.

Riggleman went all five innings to earn the win, allowing just two runs on three hits and fanning 10.

Candon Curry had both RBIs for the Tigers. Hunter Norris took the loss.

Riggleman knocked in five runs to power the Bulldogs to the win in the nightcap. Arbogast added three RBIs, while Keighan Chewning and Hunter Parks knocked in two each.

Ryan Hoffman went three innings to earn the win, allowing nine runs on five hits, striking out five and walking six.

Curry took the setback.

Anthony Russo knocked in three runs for Union.

Tygarts Valley (10-4) will host Pendleton County at 4:30 p.m. Monday for a PVC contest.

On Wednesday, the Bulldogs split a pair of games at East Hardy, taking the opener 9-3 before falling in the second game, 11-6.
