D&E softball team splits with Ursuline
ELKINS – Amber LaBille tossed a complete-game five-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader as Davis &?Elkins salvaged a split against Ursuline with a 7-0 victory Saturday at Joni Smith Field.
LaBille struck out five and walked one.
Katelyn Norton had a three-run homer for the Senators, while Corrine Carrington, Chelsie Stover and Ashley Dove added RBIs.
Ursuline claimed a 6-0 win in the lidlifter behind Sarah Maxwell’s five-hitter. She struck out seven and walked two.
Sam Roberts led the Arrows with three RBIs.
Alanna Jones (6-9) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in a complete-game showing.
D&E will host Glenville State at 2 p.m. Tuesday for a doubleheader.
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Davis &?Elkins earned a split against Cedarville Saturday in G-MAC baseball action.
The Senators took the opener, 6-3, as Ryan Dodson knocked in three runs. Treavor Dubiel and Travis Phelps also had RBIs on the day.
Michael Paratore (1-4) earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits in a complete-game effort. He fanned five and walked two.
In the nightcap, the Yellow Jackets claimed a 12-6 win. Dodson had a three-run triple for D&E, while Dubiel and Phelps added RBIs.
Marcus Warner (0-6) was tagged with the loss, surrendering seven runs on eight hits in six innings.
He struck out six and walked two. Brennan Dettinger and Christian Scott finished in relief.
D&E?will host Bluefield State at noon Tuesday for a doubleheader.
TV sweeps Valley
PINE?GROVE – Tygarts Valley swept Valley-Wetzel Saturday in non-conference action.
The Bulldogs took the opening game, 14-0, as Keighan Chewning allowed just two hits and fanned eight in five innings of work.
Caleb Riggleman led Tygarts Valley at the plate with five RBIs, while Owen Arbogast knocked in four and Chewning two.
The Bulldogs completed the sweep with a 5-1 win in the nightcap. Arbogast had four RBIs in the win, while going 3 for 3 at the plate.
Riggleman went six innings to earn the win, allowing one run on six hits and fanning seven.
Tygarts Valley (7-2) will visit Petersburg at 5 p.m. today.
Wildcats go 1-2 in Classic
BRIDGEPORT -Pendleton County completed McDonald’s Classic play with a 1-2 record.
The Wildcats lost a 7-3 decision to Preston in Friday’s late game, before defeating Grafton, 13-9, and falling to Ritchie County, 14-5, on Saturday.
Luke Cooper went 3 for 4 in the win over the Bearcats with a pair of RBIs, while Luke Yokum had a two-run single and Evan Arrington and Tim Hevener each had RBIs.
Callum McGrath earned the win, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings.
Pendleton County (7-5) will host Shenandoah Academy, Va., at 4:30 p.m. today for a doubleheader.
MHS wins tourney
MOOREFIELD – Moorefield captured the Bub Riggleman Memorial Tournament with a 15-5 win over Petersburg on Saturday.
Brooke Riggleman led the Yellow Jackets at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a homer and five RBIs. Kelsey Hines added a pair of homers and four RBIs, while Brooklin Gilbert was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a homer and Beth Cook 3 for 5.
Leah Hahn was 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a homer for the Vikings.
Moorefield defeated Martinsburg, 10-0, and Berkeley Springs, 9-6, in bracket play to advance to the title game.
Rogers, Gilbert and Cook (MVP) represented the Yellow Jackets on the all-tourney team, while Marley Thompson and Brittani Bible earned honors for Petersburg.
Moorefield (11-5) will host Tucker County at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for a PVC doubleheader.
The Vikings (11-2) will entertain Pendleton County at 7 p.m. today.
