Darling helps Senators sweep BSC

ELKINS – Davis & Elkins used two solid pitching performances, along with a big effort from Houston Darling at the plate, to sweep Bluefield State Wednesday at Harpertown field.

Noah Jarboe (4-1) twirled a five-hitter in the opener, striking out three and walking two.

Treavor Dubiel, Darling and Brad Banzhoff recorded RBIs for the Senators.

Forest Williamson (2-1) went the distance in the nightcap, yielding two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Darling knocked in three runs, including a two-run single to lead the D&E offense. Travis Phelps also lofted an RBI?sacrifice fly.

The Senators will host Salem International at noon today for a G-MAC doubleheader.

College softball

D&E splits with Falcons

ELKINS – Ashley Dove’s two-run single in the second game of a doubleheader helped Davis & Elkins salvage a split against Notre Dame (Ohio) Thursday in G-MAC softball action at Joni Smith Field.

Amanda Serafani, Katelyn Norton, Kayla Whoolery and Corrine Carrington added RBIs in the Senators’ 6-3 victory in the nightcap.

Alanna Jones (7-9) allowed three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking a pair to earn the win on the mound.

The Falcons used a grand slam by Kayla Sidorski in the first inning of the lidlifter en route to claiming an 8-6 win.

Kelsey Coleman added a solo shot in the second.

Serafini also homered for D&E.

Amber LaBille (4-13) surrendered eight runs on 10 hits, while striking out eight and walking six in taking the loss.

The Senators (11-24, 4-8 G-MAC) will host G-MAC rival Alderson Broaddus at 2 p.m. Saturday for a doubleheader.

MORGANTOWN – West Virginia blanked Alderson Broaddus in spring soccer action Thursday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer

Stadium.

At the conclusion of WVU’s Pink Game, the Battlers donated to the Mountaineers’ total of $8,584 raised on March 1 for Morgantown’s Betty Puskar Breast Cancer Foundation.

Kailey Utley had three goals for WVU, while freshman Ashley Lawrence found the back of the net twice.
