Elkins earns 13-9 victory over Knights

ELKINS – Colby Gainer went 4 for 5 and knocked in five runs to power Elkins to a 13-9 victory over Preston Tuesday in Big 10 Conference action at the EHS field.

The Tigers (3-3, 2-1 Big 10) trailed 5-4 in the third inning before erupting for six runs in the fifth.

Kollin Hopwood was also 2 for 3 for Elkins with a RBI and run scored, while Tyler Shreve went 2 for 4 and scored three times and Joseph Severino was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Isaac Riggleman earned the win in 4 1/3 innings of relief. He allowed four runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked two.

The Tigers will travel to Big 10 rival Buckhannon-Upshur at 7 p.m. today.

Tygarts Valley 12, Pocahontas County 0

MILL CREEK – Rece Wamsley allowed just one hit in five innings to lead Tygarts Valley over Pocahontas County in PVC play.

Wamsley struck out six and walked two.

P.J. Lanham led the Bulldogs at the plate with three RBIs, while Wamsley, Owen Arbogast and Keighan Chewning each knocked in two runs.

Brandon Hammons took the loss for the Warriors in 3 1/3 innings of action. He allowed eight runs on seven hits, with four strikeouts and two walks.

He also had the lone hit for the visitors.

Tygarts Valley (4-2) will visit Calhoun County at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Pocahontas County (1-3) is scheduled to entertain Pendleton County at 4:30 p.m. today.
