Furious rally lifts Cougars past Wildcats

FRANKLIN?- Austin Whetzel’s two-run double in the eighth inning helped East Hardy claim a 13-12 win over Pendleton County Thursday night in PVC


The Wildcats threatened in the bottom of the eighth, pushing one run across on a fielder’s choice. But Bryce Strawderman retired the final batter on a strikeout with the bases loaded to end the game.

Pendleton County led 11-4 before the Cougars used a seven-run sixth inning to tie the game. Hunter Miller, who was 3 for 4 on the night with three RBIs, had a two-run single to lead the rally.

Michael Miller went 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and fanning seven to earn the win.

Jessie Miller also went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and threw out two runners from the catchers position for East Hardy.

Logan Cooper was tagged with the loss for the Wildcats. He also went 3 for 4 at the plate with two singles and a triple. Evan Arrington, meanwhile, was 2 for 4.

Both teams will return to action today, as the Cougars will host Spring Mills at 7 p.m. and Pendleton County will face Preston at 5:30 p.m. at the McDonald’s Classic in Bridgeport.
