Senator baseball team drops 4-1 decision to former WVIAC foe
ELKINS – Fairmont State plated three runs in the first inning en route to a 4-1 win over former WVIAC foe Davis & Elkins Wednesday at Harpertown Field.
Randy Tallhamer, Brian Coleman and Sam Orr each had run-producing singles in the first for the Falcons in backing starter Cody Butts, who went seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits, striking out three and walking four.
Chris Fluharty went the final two innings, allowing no hits and fanning one.
The Senators plated their lone run in the third on Treavor Dubiel’s triple that plated Brad Banzhoff.
Zach Bradford was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in one inning, Only one run was earned. Tyler Honeycutt, Michael Paratore and Marcus Warner finished in relief.
D&E (17-21) will host Ohio Valley at noon Friday for a G-MAC doubleheader.
Fairmont State improved to 13-24 and will entertain Notre Dame College Saturday in MEC play.
ELKINS – Davis & Elkins picked up one win over NAIA foe West Virginia Tech Wednesday at Joni Smith Field.
The Golden Bears took game one 7-2, but the Senators bounced back with a 13-1 win in game two.
The game was tied at 1-1 in the lidlifter before Tech broke the game open with a three-run fifth.
Alanna Jones (7-12) worked 3 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on five hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks in taking the loss.
In game two, Corrine Carrington and Chelsie Stover each registered RBI singles, and Ashley Dove notched a bases-clearing triple, as D&E scored five runs in the opening frame.
Carrington and Amber LaBille each posted a pair of RBIs in the second to lead a seven-run outburst.
D&E’s final tally came on a Kayla Whoolery single in the third inning.
Amber LaBille (7-13) tossed the complete game, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out four and walking one.
D&E (14-27) will travel to Ohio Valley at 2 p.m. Saturday for a G-MAC doubleheader.
