Senators end home season with sweep

ELKINS – Davis & Elkins sent its six seniors and head coach Ronnie Palmer out on a winning note at home by sweeping Ohio Valley Sunday at Harpertown Field.

Palmer will step down after the season to become the school’s full-time athletic director.

The Senators took the opener by a score of 9-3 and completed the G-MAC sweep with an 11-5 decision in the nightcap.

Marcus Warner had a two-run double, Houston Darling a two-run inside-the-park homer and Matt Moceri a three-run home to spark D&E in the lidlifter.

Michael Paratore (3-4) earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits in going the distance.

In the second game, the Scots led 5-4 before the Senators answered with seven runs on the strength of two OVC errors, and RBIs from Ryan Butts, Darling, Brad Banzhoff, Phelps, Logan Mongold and Moceri.

Warner (2-6) earned the win, allowing five runs on 12 hits in going the distance.

D&E, which split Saturday’s action with OVC, will visit Bluefield State at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
