Tiger tennis teams win

WESTON – The Elkins High School tennis teams defeated Lewis County Monday in Big 10 Conference action. The girls team won, 7-0, while the boys team won, 5-2.

“It was a definitely a good win for us,” EHS coach Brandon Simmons said. “The girls really played well. They dominated in all of their matches. The boys lost a couple matches, but they didn’t go down. They did really well in doubles to seal the team victory.”

In girls’ singles matches, Christine Zurbuch defeated Morgan Weaver, 8-1. Caitlin Gutta defeated Madison Jenkins, 8-4. Bradley Gutta defeated Allie McHenry, 8-0. Kayla Gainer defeated Cierra Goldsmith, 8-1.

In girls’ doubles matches, Zurbuch and Gainer defeated Weaver and Jenkins, 8-1. The Gutta sisters defeated McHenry and Goldsmith, 8-0. Josalin Hepler and Macy Amos defeated Whitney Barker and Nicole Taylor, 8-4.

In boys’ singles matches, Elkins’ Taylor Stump defeated Michael Pinkney, 8-2, and Ryan Henson defeated Tristen Gillespie, 8-4.

For Lewis County, Ethan Hull defeated Mason Schoonover, 8-6, and Ross Harvey defeated Linkoln Barger, 8-5.

In boys doubles matches, Stump and Henson defeated Gillespie and Hull, 8-3. Schoonover and Barger defeated Pinkney and Riley Gunter, 8-2. Mason Ariola and Corey Crumm defeated Harvey and Connor Thomas, 8-4.

Elkins returns to action today at 4 p.m. against Fairmont Senior.
