Tigers cruise past Buccaneers, 9-1

BUCKHANNON – Elkins’ Colby Gainer struck out 11 batters Wednesday in route to a 9-1 victory over Big 10 Conference and sectional rival Buckhannon-Upshur.

“We had a good solid effort,” Tigers coach Adam Roth said. “We played very well. It was nice to see us score some runs. I just hope we can carry that momentum into North Marion.”

Gainer pitched the complete game, giving up one run, two hits and two walks. He also helped his own cause, hitting a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

At the plate, he was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Tyler Shreve took the loss for the Bucs. He went four innings, giving up six runs on six hits.

Garrett Riggleman paced the Tigers offense.

He was 1 for 3, with a double, three RBI and a run scored.

Cole Harlan went 1 for 1, with a double and a run scored.

Senior Jacob Goss scored the only run for the Bucs on a wild pitch in the third inning.

Elkins (4-3) will travel to North Marion at 7 p.m. today, while B-U (4-2) travels to Preston also at 7 p.m. today.

Both games are Big 10 Conference matchups.
