Tigers pick up road win at North

RACHEL – Colby Gainer continued his hot hitting as Elkins claimed a 13-8 victory over North Marion Thursday night in Big 10 Conference action.

Gainer went 2 for 5 with three RBIs. He also homered for the second straight day and added a double and two runs scored.

Logan Phillips was 2 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Tigers, while Cole Harlan 2 for 5 with an RBI and a pair of doubles.

“It was good to go on the road and get a Big 10 win,” Elkins coach Adam Roth said. “Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit. We had a bad inning in the sixth to let them back in the game. We had a couple of errors and got ourselves in a little trouble, but were able to hang on for the

victory.”

Caleb Riggleman earned the win, surrendering eight runs – only three being earned – on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

Isaac Riggleman notched the save, working 1 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on one hit, fanning three and not walking a batter.

Skyler Brooks took the loss, giving up eight runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out one and walked one.

Elkins, which has won four straight games, improved to 5-3 overall and 5-1 in the Big 10 and will return to action at 10 a.m. Monday against Caldwell Academy, N.C., as part of the Tigers’ spring break trip.

The Huskies dropped to 2-3 and 1-2.
