TVHS captures tourney
UPPER GLADE – Caleb Riggleman homered and finished with six RBIs as Tygarts Valley captured the Webster tournament with a 19-4 win over Van on Saturday.
The Bulldogs collected 19 hits on the day and erupted for eight runs in the sixth inning. P.J. Lanham also homered, tripled and doubled in knocking in four runs, while C. Hawkins was 5 for 5 with a pair of RBIs.
Keighan Chewning went all six innings to record the win, surrendering four runs on five hits, striking out eight and walking one.
Justin Lambert took the loss for Van, giving up seven runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. He had two RBIs at the plate.
In Saturday’s first game, Tygarts Valley cruised past Webster County, 12-1, as Ryan Hoffman allowed just one hit in five innings. He fanned eight and walked one.
Lanham was 3 for 3 to lead the Bulldog offense, while J. Riegel, Rece Wamsley and Hawkins each had two RBIs.
Avery Dorsey took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 13 hits in three innings.
Evan Wayne had a homer for the Highlanders.
Tygarts Valley (13-5) will host Petersburg at 5 p.m. today.
MARTINSBURG – Tim Hevener struck out nine and allowed just one hit over four innings to lead Pendleton County to a 10-6 win over Martinsburg on Saturday.
Cody Lambert had a triple and single and scored two runs for the Wildcats, while Jesse Lambert was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI and Logan Cooper 2 for 2 with three RBIs.
In Saturday’s first game, Pendleton County suffered an 8-3 setback at Jefferson.
Luke Yokum took the loss, allowing five runs, only one being earned, in three innings. He gave up four hits.
Andrew Thompson was 2 for 3 with a double and Lambert cracked a two-run homer.
The Wildcats (16-6) will visit Tucker County at 4:30 p.m. today for a Potomac Valley Conference contest.
Wildcats split tilts
FRANKLIN – Brooke Arbogast drove in four runs as Pendleton County earned a split against Hampshire on Saturday.
Haley Hartman also went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Cheyenne Pitsenbarger drove in two runs for the Wildcats in the 11-8 victory.
Brittany Huffman earned the win in a complete-game effort, allowing eight runs on nine hits, striking out nine and walking three.
Makayla Gibson took the loss for the Trojans, surrendering eight unearned runs and five hits in three innings of action.
Gibson and Cierra Funke each collected two RBIs.
Hampshire picked up a 5-3 win in the second game as Funke twirled struck out 17 and allowed just three hits in going the distance.
Caylie Simmons took the loss for the Wildcats in six innings, giving up five runs on five hits and fanning six.
Pendleton County (10-6) will host Moorefield at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
