Wildcats, Cougars play second extra-inning game of year

BAKER – Pendleton County pushed two runs across in the top of the 12th inning to claim a 6-4 win over East Hardy Wednesday night in PVC action.

It was the second extra-inning affair between the teams this season, as the Cougars took a 13-12 victory in eight innings two weeks ago.

“It was once again a great battle between two evenly-matched teams,” East Hardy coach Chad Williams said. “Both teams got good pitching performances, but they were able to capitalize on an error in the eighth inning.”

Trey Cooper led off the eighth for the Wildcats by reaching on an error and Evan Arrington followed with a single. Logan Cooper and Andrew Thompson then followed with run-producing singles.

Thompson also had a two-run homer in the first for Pendleton County, which tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning with a single run.

Cody Lambert earned the win in seven innings of relief, allowing just one run.

Bryce Strawderman took the loss in relief of starter David Shifflett. Strawderman went five innings, allowing two unearned runs and fanning six. Shifflett struck out nine and allowed four runs in seven innings of action.

Logan Strawderman went 3 for 6 at the plate for East Hardy with three doubles, an RBI and run scored. Cole Collier was 2 for 5 with a double.

The Cougars (4-11) will visit Tucker County at 4:30 p.m. today for a PVC doubleheader, while the Wildcats (15-5) will travel to Musselman at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
