Battlers win two games on first day

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Randy Dobnak and Jeff Conley combined on a two-hitter as Alderson Broaddus knocked off No. 2 seed Kentucky Wesleyan 5-0 Wednesday night in G-MAC tournament action.

The Battlers, who defeated Ohio Valley earlier in the day, advance to the winner’s brack finals and will face top-seed Trevecca Nazarene at 6 p.m. today.

Dobnak (6-1) went the first seven innings, allowing both hits, striking out eight and walking four. Conley struck out five in two innings of action to earn his second save of the day.

Conley had a two-run double in the first, while David Bryan and Daniel Essian added RBIs in the


AB (29-18) tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on a double steal.

Lucas Ray (7-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in two innings.

The Battlers defeated Ohio Valley 5-2 in their first game on Wednesday, as Bobby Colton went 8 1/3 innings, surrendering just two run on four hits, striking out eight and walking six. Conley closes in relief for the save.

AB trailed 1-0 before putting up four runs in the fourth. Brandon Gignac had a two-run single during the uprising.

Cody Cowart added an RBI single in the eighth.

Cedarville 11, D&E 0

The Senators will face Kentucky Wesleyan at noon today in an elimination game.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings on the strength of an RBI double and solo homer by Drew Johnson and a two-run single by Sam Summerlin.

Cedarville tacked on two more runs in the seventh and three in the ninth.

Johnson and David Bancroft had RBI singles in seventh, while David Lenhard cracked a solo homer in the ninth.

Adams struck out three and walked four in earning the win.

Zach Bradfield (2-5) was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. He stuck out four and walked two.

Lancy Vannoy, Treavor Dubiel and Travis Phelps had the lone hits for D&E.
