D&E names Miller interim coach

ELKINS – Davis & Elkins College has named Mike Miller as the interim head baseball coach.

Miller, who will take over June 1, replaces Ronnie Palmer, who stepped down at the end of the season to become the school’s full-time director of athletics.

“I feel confident in Mike’s ability to take over the baseball program,” Palmer said. “His demeanor will be a great fit, which will allow the program to continue its progression.

“I look forward to watching him develop and mature into this new role.”

Miller has been a part of the Senator baseball program since 2008. He spent his first two seasons in Elkins as a player, and has been a part of the coaching staff for the last five seasons. In total, Miller spent nine seasons under Palmer’s tutelage, including two seasons at Salem Community College in New Jersey as a player.

The Burlington, Mass., native inherits a program that has posted a .500 or better record in four of the last five seasons.

Miller will be tasked with replacing four everyday starters in the lineup lost to graduation, as well as one starter in the pitching rotation.

The Senators finished the past season with a 25-25 overall mark in their first season in the G-MAC.
