Jackets slip in tourney
FRANKLIN – Tim Hevener whiffed seven batters Monday to lift Pendleton County past Moorefield, 9-1, in the Class A, Region II semifinal game.
“We played well,” Wildcat coach Sam Yokum said. “Tim pitched well and the defense backed him up. We had two big innings hitting the ball. That opened things up a little bit. It was a good win for us.”
Pendleton County connected on three consecutive hits to drive in five runs in the fourth inning. Logan Cooper, Jesse Lambert, Andrew Thompson drove in the runs.
The Wildcats put the game away in the seventh inning when Tyler Shears connected for a three-run double. He went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Hevener pitched all seven innings, giving up one run on four hits. At the plate, he went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI.
Dakota Vetter pitched four innings in the loss. He gave up six runs on six hits.
The Yellow Jackets notched their run when Tyler Smith scored on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning. Jestin Cosner paced the offense, going 2-for-3.
Pendleton County (23-9) will host Notre Dame at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
