Johnson, Colts trip Tigers, 7-4

ELKINS – Al Johnson smashed a solo home run Tuesday to lift Philip Barbour over Elkins, 7-4, in Big 10 Conference action.

“We had opportunities, we just failed to string hits together,” Tigers coach Adam Roth said. “We couldn’t force across the runs that we needed to force across. We made a few mistakes.

“We’ve got to correct them before we begin sectional play next week.”

Saige Cline pitched six innings to earn the victory. He gave up four runs on 11 hits and struck out two batters. At the plate, he went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Ben Lonergan took the loss for the Tigers. He pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up four earn runs on four hits. He struck out three batters.

Johnson paced the Colts on offense. He went 2 for 5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Bai Carpenter went 1 for 4 with an RBI double.

Cameron Clarkson led the Tigers, going 4 for 4 with a run scored. Tyler Shreve went 4 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kollin Hopwood went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

The Tigers (11-9) and Colts will tangle again at 5 p.m. Thursday in Philippi.

Pendleton County 17, Union 0

MT STORM – Jesse Lambert smacked a three-run homer in Pendleton County’s 17-0 win over Union Monday night in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Logan Cooper went three innings to earn the win, allowing no hits and fanning five.

Cooper also was 3 for 3 at the plate.

Brandon Streets took the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits in two innings.

Pendleton County (18-7, 11-2 PVC) will host Petersburg at 7 p.m. today.
