ELKINS – The Tucker County girls and boys track teams turned in dominating performances at the Class A, Region II meet. Now the squads will look to make some noise at the state level.

The Tucker girls, who finished third at last year’s state meet, have qualifiers in 17 of 18 events, including defending state champion Aiyana Kachmarek in the discus. The junior is also entered in the shot put, posting the second-best qualifying throw.

Other qualifiers are Jessica Kincaid (100, 200), Kelsey Kyle (100, 400, 300 hurdles), Madison Mullenax (1,600, 3,200, high jump), Madison Reall (1,600), Lenae Cole (3,200), Elizabeth Nichols (100 hurdles, long jump), Kylie Moore (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Olivia Miller (300 hurdles, high jump), the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, 4×800 and shuttle hurdles relay teams and Lydia Mullenax (shot put).

The Mountain Lions’ shuttle hurdles unit, comprised of Kyle, Nichols, Moore and Miller, had the second-fastest qualifying time.

Tygarts Valley’s lone qualifier is Hannah Currence (100 hurdles).

Pocahontas County will be represented by Megan Galford (400), Melissa Murphy (800, 1,600), the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams and Fredricah Gardner (discus).

Pendleton County’s Audrey Vanscoy (400) and Sara Dalen (1,600, 3,200) are also entered, along with the 4×200 relay team.

East Hardy’s Maria Mullin will compete in the long jump, while the Cougars’ 4×800 relay team and Moorefield’s 4×200 and shuttle hurdles relay teams are also state bound.

Qualifiers for the Tucker boys include Mitchell Mason (100, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Chris Freeman (200, 400), Kellen Dunn (400), Ian Nichols (800, high jump), Wesley Knotts (1,600, 3,200), Andrew Hauser (3,200), Walker Blosser (110 hurdles), Daniel Kisamore (110 hurdles, high jump, discus), Chase Alkire (300 hurdles), the 4×400, 4×800 and shuttle hurdles relay teams, Zach Armstrong (long jump) and Benjamin Flanagan (discus)

Other area representatives include Pendleton County’s Matt Nibblins (200) and Jarred?Rawson (3,200), East Hardy’s Kyle VanName, Pocahontas County’s Stephen Simmons (high jump) and Devin Rose (discus) and Moorefield’s Zach Liller and Alex Eye (shot put).

Relay entries include Moorefield (4×400), Pendleton County (4×100, 4×200), East Hardy (4×100, shuttle hurdles) and Pocahontas County (4×100, 4×800, shuttle hurdles).

In Class AA, girls area qualifiers include Philip Barbour’s Marissa Long (800, 1,600), Celeste Kelley (100 and 300 hurdles), the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams and Petersburg’s Estella Lambert and Elise Cardot (400).

Boys competing are Philip Barbour’s Scott Nesland (1,600, 3,200), the shuttle hurdles relay team and Petersburg’s Grant Shanholtz (110 and 300 hurdles).

The 100th running of the state meet will take place Friday and Saturday at Charleston’s Laidley Field.
