TVHS defeats Tucker

MILL CREEK – Owen Arbogast smashed a home run Tuesday to help lift Tygarts Valley over Tucker County, 11-4, in Class A, Region II, Section 2 action

Caleb Riggleman went seven innings to earn the victory. He gave up four runs on four hits, while striking out six and walking four. At the plate, he went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Zac Haddox took the loss for the Mountain Lions. He pitched three innings, giving up 11 runs on eight hits. He struck out two and walked four. At the plate, he went 2 for 3 with and RBI and a run scored.

Arbogast paced the Bulldog offense, going 2 for 2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Rece Wamsley went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Percy Lanham went 1 for 4 with two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored.

For Tucker, Justin Fike went 1 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Allen Molone also drove in a run, going 1 for 4.

Tucker County will host Union today at 5 p.m. The winner plays at Tygarts Valley on Thursday.

Pendleton County 10

Pocahontas County 2

FRANKLIN – Luke Yokum gave up two hits Tuesday to push Pendleton past Pocahontas, 10-2, in Class A Section 3, Region II action.

“It felt good to get a tourney win,” Wildcats coach Sam Yokum said.

“We started off slow. The kids kept their heads in the game and played defense until the bats started clicking. I’m proud of them.”

Up 3-2 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, Andrew Thompson rapped a two-run triple to bust the game open for Pendleton County.

The rally continued with Luke Cooper, Luke Yokum and Evan Arrington driving in runs.

Luke Yokum pitched five innings for the win, striking out four batters. At the plate, he went 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Thompson paced the offense, going 1 for 5 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Cooper went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. Arrington went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Braxton Rider took the loss for the Warriors. He pitched six innings, giving up five runs on six hits. Rider went 1 for 3 at the plate with an RBI.

Wyatt Workman picked up the other hit for Pocahontas County, going 1 for 2.

Pocahontas County will host Pendleton County at 5 p.m. today for Game 2.

B-U, Lewis suspended

WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur at Lewis County Class AAA, Region II, Section 4 game was suspended on Tuesday due to rain.

The Bucs lead the contest, 2-1, after five innings.

The game will resume at 6 p.m. today with Game 2 scheduled to follow immediately afterward.
