Bridgeport takes Class AA banner
CHARLESTON – Bridgeport captured its first baseball crown since 2000 with a 5-2 win over Independence Saturday at Appalachian Power Park.
Logan Smith earned the win, allowing just four hits and fanning eight.
The Indians (32-6) trailed 2-0 before plating three runs in the fourth.
After Bridgeport picked up an unearned run in the fifth, A.C. Caldera added an RBI double in the sixth to stretch the lead to 5-2.
Tyler Skidmore had a pair of hits to lead the Indians at the plate.
Kevin Sexton had an RBI double for the Patriots, who ended the season with a 27-8 record.
