Elkins, Tygarts Valley to meet today

SUMMERSVILLE – The Elkins and Tygarts Valley All-Stars will battle at 6 p.m. today in the Little League 11-12-year-old District 8 tourney.

Both teams are competing in Pool B, along with Clay County.

“The kids have been practicing hard,” Elkins manager Matt Davis said.

“We’ve been working on our defense, fielding a lot of balls. So I think our defense will be solid.”

Davis said the players have been working diligently during defensive drills and batting practice. He says they are enthusiastic about competing in the district tournament.

“They’re excited to get out and play,” Davis said. “We’ve got some very good hitters, and I think they will put the ball in play.

“We’re looking forward to doing our best and representing Elkins the best we can.”

Members of the Elkins team include: Alan Bennett, Logan Comer, Nathan Cooper, Brayden Davis, Tyler Davis, Blake Harris, Anthony Jones, Joshua Reckart, Cory Reed, Remington Stanley and Brennen Weese, along with assistant coaches John Davis and Chris Weese.

After today’s game, Tygarts Valley is set to face Clay County at 4 p.m. Sunday, while Elkins will play Clay County at 8 p.m. Monday.

Pool A includes Pocahontas County, Braxton County and host team Summersville.

The top two teams in each pool will advance to Wednesday’s finals, with the victors qualifying for the state tournament, which will be held next month at Chapmanville.
