Moorefield, East Hardy dominate all-PVC team
MOOREFIELD – Class A state runner-up Moorefield and East Hardy each placed five players on the All-Potomac Valley Conference softball team recently released.
Earning first-team honors for the Yellow Jackets were Beth Cook, Danica Rogers, Brooke Riggleman, Brooklin Gilbert and Bethany Smith, while the Cougars placed Marilyn Cassell, Rayann Foltz, Ruby Fridley, Morgan Basye and Autumn Mathias on the squad.
The remainder of the first team included Pendleton County’s Hillary Ord and Brittany Huffman.
Cook and Rogers were also first team all-state selections, as they helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the Class A title game, where they fell to Buffalo.
Cook, a senior, batted .587 with seven homers and 23 RBIs this past season, while Rogers, also a senior, was one of the top pitchers on Moorefield’s staff. She also batted nearly .300 at the plate.
Second-team selections included Tucker County’s Bekah Simmons and Mariah Bowley, Moorefield’s Tara George, Ariel Reed and Ashley?Rexrode, Pendleton County’s Megan Keller, Brandy Roberts and Brooke Arbogast, East Hardy’s Jade Foltz and Jodi Funkhouser and Pocahontas County’s Bobbie McNabb.
Simmons and Bowley were both seniors for the Mountain Lions, who lost to Tygarts Valley in sectional action.
Bowley, an infielder, plans to play softball at West Virginia Wesleyan next season.
