Post 29 takes 6-1 decision over Grantsville

MCHENRY, Md. – Elkins Post 29 plated four runs in the sixth inning en route to a 6-1 victory over Grantsville (Md.) Tuesday night in American Legion action.

Owen Arbogast earned the win, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits, striking out six and walking six.

Silas Gibson went 3 1/3 innings to record the save. He gave up just one hit, fanned five and walked three.

Elkins (2-0) broke the game open in the sixth when Tyler Shreve led off with a single and moved up on Kevin McDermott’s sacrifice.

Chance Price and Colby Gainer then reached on errors, and Doug Smith followed with a two-run triple.

Sean Curtis then lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Smith.

Elkins tacked on two more runs in the ninth inning on Price’s two-run single.

Al Johnson went 3 for 3 to lead Post 29 at the plate, while Price and Smith each had two hits.

“Our pitching was really good tonight,” Elkins manager Chris George said. “We still need to work on our hitting, though.”

Post 29 will have an off day before traveling to Hawley Field in Morgantown at 7 p.m. Thursday to battle Post 2.

Elkins will visit Musselman on Saturday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
