Senator signee

MILL CREEK – Owen Arbogast was a dominant force for the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs on the baseball diamond last season and now the senior is taking his game to Davis & Elkins College.

Arbogast signed earlier this week to play for the Senators next spring.

“I’m looking forward to playing at the next level,” Arbogast said. “At the college level, everyone is talented. I think it will be fun going out there and playing against their best guys. It’s going to be a challenge that I’m ready to accept.”

Bulldogs head coach James Markley said Arbogast was one of the best players on the team. He said Arbogast has “great leadership ability” and a “terrific work ethic.”

“Owen was a huge part of our success,” Markley said. “He really stepped up on the mound and with his hitting. He loves the game and will do anything to improve his ability. He’s not afraid to work hard and put in extra hours. I think he will do very well at D&E.”

Markley said Arbogast’s batting average was just over .400, and the slugger drove in 45 runs with two round-trippers. In the field, Arbogast switched between first base and pitching.

“He was our best hitter with average and RBIs,” Markley said. “He really came through in the clutch. He always hits well.

“On the mound, he’s a big lefty. I think that’s the main reason D&E recruited him. Everybody wants a lefty. He’s got a good fast ball and a decent breaking ball. I’m sure both will improve once he starts working with their program.”

Markley believes Arbogast will eventually make an impact for the Senators.

“He’s a really good kid,” Markley said. “I’m very excited for him to take the next step. He’s got a bright future and I know he will put in the time to get even better. He already has a lot of natural ability. I think he will really excel with their coaching staff.”

While at TVHS, Arbogast earned all-state honors during his junior season and also was named to the all-Potomac Valley Conference team both his junior and senior seasons.

The all-state squad for this season is yet to be announced. He will be playing in the the North/South All-Star game slated for noon Sunday at Hurricane High School.

Arbogast is also a member of the Elkins American Legion Post 29 team.
