ELKINS – Blake Loftis’ RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Elkins Fordland to a thrilling 9-8 win over Citizens Bank of West Virginia Friday in the semifinals of the Elkins Elks Babe Ruth City Tournament at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Fordland, the No. 2-seed, will face the winner of Friday’s late game between Allegheny Insurance and top-seed Davis Trust Company at 2:30 p.m. today in the title game.

Citizens jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Fordland, as Shane Bodkin had an RBI groundout in the first, Derek Lewis a run-producing single in the second and a two-run single from Kyle Riggleman in the third.

Fordland cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the third on the strength of a two-run double by Loftis.

After Citizens regained a 6-3 lead in the fourth, Fordland erupted for five runs in the home-half of the frame to take an 8-6 edge.

Nick Hamrick had a two-run single to lead the uprising, while Tyler Monk, David Gainer and Loftis added RBIs.

A two-run fifth by Citzens then tied the game, which was decided in the eighth when Loftis knocked in Will Crumm with the deciding run.

David Gainer pitched four innings of relief to earn the win.
