ABU names new coaches for next year
PHILIPPI – Alderson Broaddus University athletic director Dennis Creehan has announced the addition of two new head coaches.
Chad Kerr has been hired as the new head coach for the school’s softball team, while Greg Walker will guide the men’s volleyball team.
Kerr comes to AB after spending the last three seasons at Central Christian College in McPherson, Kan. The Tigers showed steady improvement under Kerr, winning 14 games overall and seven games in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference. He also served as athletic director at CCC.
Prior to his time at CCC, Kerr coached competitive select/travel softball both at the 16U and 18U level with the D-Bat Mustang Organization.
Kerr played baseball at Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State, where he was an all-conference outfielder and is on the career and single season stolen base record lists. He graduated with a bachelor of science in English.
Prior to coming to AB, Walker spent time at Mississippi State as an assistant coach on the women’s team. He was responsible for team defensive training as well as training the outside and rightside hitters. In his time with the Bulldogs he coached MSU first two All-Americans.
Walker served as the head coach at Division II Pfeiffer University for both the men’s and women’s squads.
The men’s team claimed back-to-back conference championships in 2012 and 2013. He also spent two seasons as an assistant for six-time Division III national championship program Juniata College (Pa.). Walker also spent time as the head coach of the Penn State-Altoona women’s club team.
Walker played for the Penn State-Altoona club volleyball team that was a Top 20 NIRSA Division II program. He graduated with a Kinesiology degree from Penn State with an emphasis in Fitness Studies.
Walker is currently working toward a Masters of Sports Science through the United States Sports Academy.
