Elkins 11-12-year-olds eliminated from tourney

CHAPMANVILLE – The Elkins 11-12-year-olds were eliminated from Little League state tournament action with a pair of losses over the weekend.

Elkins lost a 4-3 decision in seven innings to Mountaineer on Saturday, before falling to Bridgeport, 18-0, on Sunday.

Bridgeport had five homers in the contest, which ended in the fourth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.

In its first game in Pool A action on Friday, Elkins lost to Martinsburg, 12-1.

Martinsburg captured the Pool A title with wins over Elkins, Mountaineer (5-1) and Bridgeport (9-4).

It will face Pool D runner-up Morgan County in elimination round quarterfinal play at 6 p.m. today.

Greenbrier Central won the Pool B championship and will battle Pool C runner-up Summersville at 8 p.m.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Pool C winner Hurricane will face Pool B runner-up Milton and Pool D victor Worthington/Parkersburg will square off against Pool A runner-up Bridgeport at 8 p.m.

The semifinals will be held at 6 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

The championship contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Tracy Vickers Field.

The winner moves on to play in the Southeast Regional tourney at Warner Robins, Ga., for the right to advance to play in the Little League World Series at Williamsport, Pa., in August.
