Elkins 15s fall in OVR action
MARINETTE, Wis. – The Elkins Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars dropped a pair of games in Ohio Valley Regional action on Friday.
Elkins lost to Lawrence County, Ill., in its first game of the day by a score of 16-8 and dropped a 12-5 decision to Zanesville, Ohio, later in the second day of the tourney.
Elkins will now enter single-elimination bracket play today. The time and opponent was unavailable at press time today, as games were still being contested late Friday.
The championship game is slated for Sunday to determine the team that will represent the Ohio Valley in the upcoming Babe Ruth World Series.
In 13-year-old Ohio Valley Regional play Friday in Elizabethtown, Ky., Elkins defeated Mattoon, Ill., 12-4, and lost to Cambridge, Ohio, 16-3.
Elkins, which defeated Crown Point, Ind., 13-2 on Thursday, will begin single-elimination tourney action today. The time and opponent was unknown at press time today due to games still being played.
Elkins was in second place in Pool 2 competition late Friday night.
The 12 teams competing in the tournament will be seeded for the single-elimination portion of the tournament.
Along with West Virginia, squads from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin and Kentucky are taking part in the tournament, which will conclude with Sunday’s title game.
