Elkins, Harrison County to decide 13-year-old title

ELKINS – The Elkins Babe Ruth 13-year-old All- Stars will take their best swings today in a double-header against Harrison County in state tournament play.

Games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Robin Harvey Memorial Field. If necessary, a third game will be played at 2 p.m. Sunday.

“Practice has been going well,” Elkins manager Steve Schumacher said. “The kids are looking forward to playing at home.

They hope to have a good crowd to come out and cheer them on.”

Matthew Gainer will start the first game for Elkins, while Read Schumacher will take the mound in game two.

“I think we have good starting pitching,” Steve Schumacher said. “We’ve got a team that can hit and put the ball in play. They are a good group of kids that understand the game of baseball. They want to do their best at all times. I believe they will represent Randolph County well.”

Members of the 13-year-old All-Stars include: Adam Hart, Brett Smith, Cole Crum, Jeremy Coger, Reed Schumacher, Hunter Mouse, Brad Bright, Thomas Talkington, Jesse Williams, Jon Phillips, Austin Lanham and Matt Gainer.
