Elkins moves to states with 14-2 victory

SUMMERSVILLE – Elkins earned a spot in the Little League 11-12-year-old state tournament with a 14-2 victory in four innings over Braxton County Thursday night in District 8 play.

Elkins will now play in Chapmanville for state action, which begins on July 18.

“Our kids continued to hit the ball extremely well and everyone contributed to the victory,” Elkins manager Matt Davis said. “The kids have worked hard and achieved their goal.

“We will try to continue to work hard when we go to Chapmanville for the state tournament.”

Logan Comer and Josh Reckart each hit two-run homers for Elkins.

Brayden Davis and Tyler Davis, meanwhile, were both 2 for 3 and knocked in four runs each.

Remington Stanley went all four innings to earn the win, allowing just two runs.

Elkins went undefeated in the tournament, defeating Tygarts Valley and Clay County to win the Pool B title.

Tygarts Valley’s bid for a state tournament berth came up short, however, as it fell to host team Summersville 8-4 in Thursday’s other championship contest.
