Little League state tourneys set to kick into high gear
SOUTH CHARLESTON – The Tucker County 9-10-year-old Little League All-Stars will begin state tournament play today at Little Creek Park.
Tucker County will compete in Pool C, along with Shady Springs, St. Albans and Ceredo-Kenova. It will begin action at 4 p.m. vs. Shady Springs, then face Ceredo-Kenova at noon Saturday and St. Albans at 4 p.m. Sunday.
The remainder of the field includes Braxton County, Grant County, Madison, Martinsburg, Mountaineer, Bridgeport, Barboursville, Sophia, Pineville and Shinnston.
Each winner and runner-up in the four different pools advance to the finals, which will begin Monday and conclude with Wednesday’s title game.
Tucker County earned a spot in the state tournament by finishing as runner-ups in the District 8 tournament held at Riverbend Park.
A 14-3 victory over Summersville in one of the finals earned Tucker County a spot in South Charleston.
The squad suffered only one loss in District 8 play, which was to Braxton County.
Meanwhile, the Elkins 12-year-old All-Stars are preparing for state tournament play in Chapmanville.
The tournament will get underway next Friday.
Elkins, the District 8 champions, will begin Pool A action vs. the District 6 champion.
