Elkins golfers earn win
FAIRMONT – The Elkins Tigers golf team took home a victory over North Marion and Lewis County Thursday at the Green Hills Country Club in Fairmont.
Elkins earned the top spot with 166 shots. North Marion finished second with 182 shots, while Lewis County rounded out the field with 187 shots.
“The kids all play well today,” EHS coach David Baird said. “It’s probably coming at a good time, since the season is winding down. It seems like the kids just keep getting better. Hopefully it will continue.”
Braden Hammond led the Tigers with 39 strokes. Dylan Reckart and Russell Ward both finished with 42 strokes. Joseph Severino took 43 strokes, while Camryn Zirbs and Brendan Cain both ended with 46 strokes.
North Marion’s Colton Holbert earned the Low Medal with 38 strokes.
Connor Thomas paced the Minutemen with 45 strokes.
SOUTHERN GARRETT, MD. – The Tucker County Mountain Lions used 199 strokes to finish second Thursday at the Oakland Country Club in Maryland.
Southern Garrett, Md. took home the victory with 172 strokes. Mountain Ridge, Md., 200 strokes, Preston County, 203 strokes, and Northern Garrett, Md., 227 strokes, also competed at the event.
“Overall, I was pleased with our performance,” TCHS coach Sam Goughnour said. “It’s a tough, tight course. It takes good golf shots. We’re improving a little at a time. That’s all we can ask for.”
Seth Evans led the Mountain Lions with 44 strokes. Eric McCrum also had a good game, finishing with 46 strokes.
Preston County’s Jake Livengood earned the Low Medal with 40 shots.
