Buckhannon squads all have a big day

On Saturday, all three Buckhannon Youth Football teams had successful days in Elkins.

The Mighty Mites played successfully on both sides of the ball. The BUCS Pee Wee team played hard and beat Elkins with a final score of 24-13. That evening, the Buckhannon Midgets shut down the Elkins offense with a 38-6 win.

At the start of the Midgets game, the Bucs marched it up the field and Sterlin Thropp ran it in for the first touchdown of the night. The extra point was run in by Mark Hurst to start the score off at 7-0.

A minute later Thropp again ran in for the Bucs’ second touchdown. Luke Yardley attempted his first point after kick but it was no good, making the score 13-0.

On the first play in the second quarter, the Bucs fumbled the ball and Elkins retrieved it and their defense ran the ball back for their first and only touchdown of the night. The extra point was no good, putting the score at 13-6.

Within a minute and a half, Mark Hurst for the Bucs ran in another touchdown, then ran in the extra point, making it 20-6. Shelton Thropp then intercepted an Elkins pass. Later Mark Hurst ran it in for a touchdown, making the score 26-6 at the half.

The third quarter featured another TD run by Mark Hurst, putting the score at 32-6. With 4:09 left in the fourth quarter Thropp ran the ball in for the last touchdown of the night, making the score 38-6.

Buckhannon will play away again on Sunday against the Clarksburg Panthers at Hite Field. Midgets will start the day at 1p.m., followed by the Pee Wees at 3 p.m. and the Mighty Mites at 5 p.m.
