Elkins girls soccer team scores 3-0 victory over East Fairmont

FAIRMONT — Nonee High scored a pair of goals and the Elkins High School girls soccer team earned an impressive road win Tuesday, toppling East Fairmont 3-0.

“It was another shutout win for the girls,” EHS girls soccer coach Scott Cutright said. “They played a great defensive game today.”

The first goal of the game came at 13 minutes into the contest, when freshman Sofia Triplett assisted sophomore Nonee High on the first Elkins score.

High repeated the feat at 23 minutes in, scoring her second goal of the night on an assist from senior Megan Morral.

With just 35 seconds left in the half, Morral headed in a corner kick from junior Caitlin Weese to score Elkins’ third and final goal.

Senior goalkeeper Christine Zurbuch had four saves on the night, doing her part to keep East Fairmont scoreless.

Elkins had a total of 7 shots on goal Tuesday to 4 for East Fairmont, while the Lady Tigers had 7 corner kicks to East Fairmont’s one.

The win improves Elkins’ record to 8 wins, 2 losses and 4 ties on the season.

With the loss, East Fairmont drops to 8-6.

“We have another game coming up on Thursday that is a real must-win game for us,” Cutright said.

Elkins will play host to Lewis County at 8 p.m. Thursday.

FAIRMONT — The Elkins High School boys soccer team shouldered a tough 9-0 defeat on the road Tuesday at the hands of the unbeaten East Fairmont squad.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 6-6 on the season so far.

The win moves East Fairmont to 12-2 on the year.

The Tigers will host Lewis County at 6 p.m. Thursday.
