Elkins High School’s Dylan Reckart earns state golf tourney bid

BRIDGEPORT – Elkins High School’s Dylan Reckart shot an 81 on Monday at the Bridgeport County Club to earn his way into the Class AA West Virginia State Golf Tournament.

The competition is set to begin next week in Wheeling.

“We came up a little short,” EHS coach David Baird said. “As a team, we finished third, overall. But Dylan (Reckart) shot an 81 and earned a spot into the tournament as an individual. It’s exciting for him. He’s a junior and hasn’t been there. It’s going to be a good experience for him.

“He got his golf game finally turned around,” Baird said. “He struggled some during the middle of the year. Over the past week or two, he’s finally figured out his swing. His scores are starting to get better. So I think he will do well there.”

The Tigers finished the Class AA Region 2 Tournament in third place with 259 strokes. Luke Swecker, 87 strokes, and Russell Ward, 91 strokes, contributed to the team scoring. Jacob White finished with 108 strokes, but did not contribute to the team score.

Raone County won the team competition with 243 strokes, while Bridgeport finished in second place with 246 strokes. Both teams qualified for the state tournament. Other schools competing in the tournament included Lewis County, Braxton County, Clay County, Herbert Hoover, Robert C. Byrd, Nicholas County, Lincoln and Liberty high schools.

Bridgeport’s Mason Williams earned the low medal for the tournament with 66 strokes.

The Class AA State Tournament gets underway on Monday with a practice round at the Spiedel Golf Course at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.
