West Virginia Wesleyan College’s women’s volleyball team ranked fifth in region

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat soccer team moved up one spot this week in the latest NSCAA NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional rankings that were released Tuesday.

The Lady Bobcats moved up to fifth after being ranked sixth last week.

Wesleyan had a perfect 2-0 week last week with a pair of shutout wins.

They defeated Urbana at home last Friday night by a 4-0 score and downed Shepherd at home Sunday by a 2-0 score.

The Lady Bobcats have a 6-0-2 record overall and a 5-0-2 record in the Mountain East Conference.

East Stroudsburg (Pa.) and West Chester (Pa.) remain first and second in the regional rankings.

Wesleyan will play again today at home against California (Pa.) at 7 p.m. in a non-conference outing.

Three different players managed to get into the scoring act for the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats as they defeated the Shepherd University Rams by a 3-1 score in a Mountain East Conference battle at Culpepper Stadium.

Nick Ranieri started things for Wesleyan when he scored on a corner kick just 1:16 into the game.

Juwon Akintunde played a pass from Conor Davies and beat Shepherd keeper Jacob Clements for a 2-0 lead.

The lone goal of the second half belonged to Davies, who controlled a ball in front of the net and scored in the 62nd minute.

Luca Falconeri was credited with the assist on the goal.

Wesleyan had a huge 23-5 margin in shots and a 7-2 lead in shots-on-goal.

Bobcat keeper Alessandro Armenia made one save as he won his third game of the season.

The loss dropped Shepherd to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the MEC.

Wesleyan improved to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the MEC.

Wesleyan will return to action Wednesday in non-conference action when they play Shippensburg (Pa.).

The game will start at 4 p.m.
