D&E women defeated by Alderson-Broaddus

PHILIPPI — Katrina Giantsopoulos’ team-leading 11th goal of the season wasn’t enough as the Senators fell to rival Alderson Broaddus 2-1 on Tuesday night to close out the regular season.

Giantsopoulos opened up the scoring in the 38th minute, taking a pass from Ellie Rossiter and beating Alderson Broaddus keeper Diyonus Walls.

However, the lead wouldn’t last long as the hosts answered back a little over two minutes later as Rebecca Natoli tied things up at 1.

The game remained tied into the break.

The majority of the second half was owned by the Senators, who had six shots, three on goal, and six corners.

Despite the control, the Senators were unable to find the breakthrough and it was the Battlers who found the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute with a goal from Chanel Nkounkou.

The Senators finish fourth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings for the regular season.

The Senators will now set their sights on the G-MAC Conference Tournament. D&E will host an opening round game on Saturday against Kentucky Wesleyan. Game time is to be announced.
