Tygarts Valley Middle School outscores Tucker Valley by 28 after halftime

MILL CREEK — The Tygarts Valley Middle School Bulldogs overcame a slow start to defeat Tucker Valley 36-6 Wednesday in the last TVMS home game this season.

“For the first time this year, the other team took the opening drive and scored on us,” said TVMS coach Rodney Bright. “Tucker Valley definitely showed up to play. They took the lead 0-6.”

The Bulldogs (6-1) took a narrow 8-6 lead into halftime, but blanked the Wildcats while scoring 28 points in the second half.

TVMS quarterback Josh Bright was 5 for 5 passing on the night, including 2 touchdown passes. He also scored on a rushing extra-point attempt.

Caden Boggs gained 87 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown. The versatile Tyler Bartlett had a big night, catching 2 passes for 26 yards and a touchdown, and also went 2 for 2 on extra-point kicks. Bartlett’s most spectacular play was when he took a kickoff return back 88 yards for a touchdown.

The Bulldogs’ Daniel Taylor had a pair of receptions, including a touchdown.

Paden Haney, Luke Bright and Garrett Gibson also picked up rushing yardage for TVMS.

On defense, Jace Swecker and Landon Kyle notched 5 tackles each, while Brier Daughtery had 4 tackles and 2 assists.

Clayton Ball racked up 3 tackels and 6 assists, and scooped up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Corey Parsons also had a fumble recovery Wednesday.

Gibson and Taylor had 3 tackles and 2 assists each, while Boggs contributed 3 tackles and 1 assist.

Also making tackles for the Bulldogs Wednesday were Jace Dean, Dominic Currence, Ezra Scott, Wade Warner, Eli Smith, Brandon Bennett, Keegan Bolyard and Riley Tackett.

Bright also praised the sportsmanship of the Tucker Valley team, noting the Wildcat players wore stickers on their helmets in support of TVMS assistant coach Shane Maxwell, who is battling cancer. Bright said the Tucker Valley players spoke with and shook hands with Maxwell before the game.

“It was a really great thing they did,” Bright said.

The Bulldogs will take to the road next Wednesday to play Notre Dame in the last game of their season.

Wednesday’s game was the last contest of the season for Tucker Valley.
