Elkins falls, 68-54, to Big 10 foe East Fairmont

ELKINS — The Elkins Tigers fell, 68-54, on Thursday to Big 10 Conference foe East Fairmont in boys varsity basketball action.

“We had our chances to turn it around,” EHS coach Brandon Simmons said. “But in the fourth quarter, they just out-hustled us. We couldn’t get things to go in our favor.

“I thought we played some selfish ball tonight. We didn’t play together as much as we could, on the offensive side of the ball. I think we could have worked the ball a little bit more and got some better looks. But all in all, we played against a good team and they made the shots when they needed to.”

Elliot White set the tone for the Tigers with 16 points. Senior point guard Dalton Hamrick also reached double digits in scoring with 13 points.

Devan Ricottilli, 8 points, Matt Wilson, 6 points, Jacob White, 5 points, Kyle Riggleman, 4 points, and Tyler Monk, 2 points, all contributed to the effort.

East Fairmont (11-3) had four players reach double digits in scoring, including Michael Gaskill, 18 points, David McQuain 14 points, Jesse Maddox, 12 points, and Alexander Harvey, 11 points.

East Fairmont came out on top of the first quarter, 18-12, and ended the first half with a 40-31 advantage. After the intermission, Elkins topped the Bees in the third quarter, 14-11, but gave up a 17-14 point fourth quarter to close out the contest.

Elkins (5-9) is set to host Tygarts Valley on Monday. Junior varsity action tips off at 4 p.m., followed by a varsity girls contest at 5:45 p.m. The boys varsity contest will begin at 7:30 p.m.
